Simply use ATM’s all over Istanbul to get some Turkish currency. Or you can convert your money to Turkish Lira at any of the banks or Currency Exchange Offices (Doviz) in Istanbul. If you want to exchange currency, best rates are obtained in Istanbul.
“Do you know you can spend Dollar or Euro in Istanbul ? ”
The official currency of the Republic of Turkey is Turkish lira. The Turkish Lira is divided into subunits called kuruş. Paper currency comes in 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 TRY money notes and metal currency comes in 5, 10, 25, and 50 kuruş and 1 Lira coins.
Turkish Lira vs. Euro & Dolar
Apart from Turkish Lira, strong currencies such as U.S. Dollar and Euro are widely accepted by large shopping centers, hotels and restaurants. 1 Euro is approximately 4 TRY and 1 dolar is approximately 3,7 TRY.(2017-October)
In Istanbul, there are ATM’s everywhere! You may withdraw Turkish Lira from them with an addition of commission. You may, as well, change money at a bank, hotel but exchange offices are always a better choice with their relatively lower commission rates and it is advisable that you carry some Turkish Lira with you at all times for your own convenience.
Nice discussion. Useful. According to my experience yes at least for Taxi and for small needs like water, coffee you will need turkish lira cash. BTW nowadays im using P2P mobile apps to match with real people around me to exchange money. I can negotiate the rate before i walk thousands of steps. Choose the best peer, meet in a cafe and perform exchange. *** Exchange Local currency application is my best so far. need to be more global but i believe it will be soon. Donnow if there are some others. So far **** Exchange Money Application is brilliant. Just like another uber but for exchanging money. Never use Euronet bankomats or airport offices. they are all cheaters, unfair rates or high commission rates. You can also use “*****” to send money abroad. Just wanted to share my experience.
