Istanbul ranked 10th in the 2017
In the 2017 Global Target Cities Index published by US-based international finance company Mastercard, Istanbul ranks 10th among the top 30 cities that are expected to draw the most foreign visitors in the world this year.
In the news of BBC English, Istanbul, which has 9.16 million foreign tourists last year. This is among the most popular cities in Europe. In 2017, the city is expected to host approximately 9.24 million visitors.
The report, published every nine years, is based on changes in the total number of international visitors, border crossings, sightseeing destinations, spending and number of passengers.

BANGKOK IS THE FIRST
In report ranks first in Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, in the list of 30 cities that welcomed foreign tourists last year.
Bangkok was followed by the capital of England, capital of France, capital of France, Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore, the city city of Asia.
Target Cities Index: Top 10 most visited cities in 2016:
- Bangkok – 19.41 million visitors
- London – 19.06 million visitors
- Paris – 15.45 million visitors
- Dubai – 14.87 million visitors
- Singapore – 13.11 million visitors
- New York – 12.7 million visitors
- Seoul – 12.39 million visitors
- Kuala Lumpur – 11.28 million visitors
- Tokyo – 11.15 million visitors
- Istanbul – 9.16 million visitors
90% FOR TOURIST PURPOSES
According to the figures, nearly 90 percent of Istanbul visits were for tourist purposes and the rest was business travel.
Most of the expenses in Istanbul and Prague went to dinner. The total amount of foreign travel to Istanbul is 5.8 billion dollars. This figure is expected to increase 1.6 percent by the end of 2017.
